How can a shipping service between Gothenburg and Kristinehamn be organized to offload cargo from road and railway transports? Sea transportation in the Vänern area has been reduced since 1990, and the cargo has moved to alternative rail, and road transportation. In December 2014, the Swedish regulation for inland water ways was threaded into force, a fifth mode of transport which shell compete with rail and road transport. The purpose of this report is to investigate the possibility to start a shipping service with RoRo vessels, constructed according to inland waterway regulations and investigate the operational aspects of the line. Questions which will be investigate is: What cargo volumes is there in the area, how can the shipping line be formed operationally, and how can the vessel be designed? The report is a case study, the geographical area is designated and the shipping has own specific condition. The report is written in Swedish. The result is that there are sufficient volumes of goods from the region, and goods from other part of the country passing through the area to justify the start-up of the shipping service. The solution is a high-frequency line, served with two RoRo-inland vessels which handles semi-trailers, containers and general cargo. The service has 6 departures per week in both directions. The RoRo-vessel is designed for fast, safe and efficient cargo handling according to the RoRo-principle. The environmental profile for the vessel is clear with a high stowage utilization, and a Liquefied natural gas propulsion system. The vessel can be used to offload the road- and railway infrastructure in the region.
